Employment Authorization Document (EAD)
The Employment Authorization Document is an identification card issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that authorizes foreign nationals to work in the United States. It is also known as a work permit or Form I-766. Many individuals holding valid visas may be eligible for an EAD, which allows them to work in the United States.

Timing may vary so an exact date or official estimate cannot be given. However, EAD decisions are generally issued within 90 days of receipt of the complete application.
- Asylees, refugees, and U Visa applicants who are authorized to work in the U.S. and need evidence of that employment authorization;
- Individuals with nonimmigrant visas that include work authorization; and
- Individuals with pending Applications to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status.
